VERSE
ONE
I am just a
sailing ship sitting on the bay,
My riggings torn and tattered by the gales of yesterday,
My belly’s full of whiskey and my hold is full of rum,
For the merriment of the sailors when the working day is done,
I dreamt I was a pirate ship,
Plundering for the hell of it.
Thieving from the merchant ships,
A Buccaneer and proud of it.
CHORUS
For when I was a pirate ship, young at heart and fighting fit,
I sailed the seven seas when I was young,
But now I’m just an aging ship, obsolete and ill equipped,
No-one seems to know where I belong.
VERSE TWO
My
decking’s tired and twisted from a sea no man can tame,
My irons slowly rusting from the salty wind and rain,
My men have all deserted me, found a life beyond the sea,
No sentiments or guarantees, just my fading memory,
I dreamt I was a fighting ship,
Plundering for the hell of it.
Thieving from the merchant ships,
A Buccaneer and proud of it.
REPEAT CHORUS
BRIDGE
For
I have set down anchor in exotic ports of call.
Met smugglers who defied the law and still they smuggled more,
For I have been a vagabond, a gypsy from the start,
But now my days are numbered, there’s a yearning in my heart.
OUTRO
I dreamt I was a pirate ship.
Young at heart and fighting fit,
Plundering for the hell of it,
Thieving from the merchant ships.
I dreamt I was a pirate ship,
Thieving for the hell of it
Plundering all the merchant ships,
A buccaneer and proud of it.
